Barbie secured the top spot, earning a massive $162 million during the weekend, while Oppenheimer came in second with $82.5 million. This is the first time in cinematic history that the top two films earned over $100 million and $50 million in a single weekend.


The term "Barbenheimer" became popular on the internet simply because of the box office success of both Barbie and Oppenheimer - collectively known as Barbenheimer. This has got some people  wondering about unique crossover opportunities.

Additionally, the movie earned the highest Thursday preview grosses for 2023, collecting $22.5 million, surpassing the previous records held by Ant-Man & The Wasp: Quantumania and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which earned $17.5 million. On Friday, it recorded the largest single-grossing day of 2023, bringing in an impressive $70.8 million, beating The Super Mario Bros. Movie's $54.8 million. Notably, it also secured the largest opening weekend for a female-directed film, surpassing Captain Marvel's previous record of $153.4 million.
